VINTAGE 1962 PLYMOUTH VALIANT TIN FRICTION TOY CAR

Forty -nine years old and runs like a charm. That must be because it's a Plymouth. I remember in the late 1960's a friend of mine in high school drove one just like it. His name was Mark. He was a really nice guy. I wonder where he is now and what path his feet have trod in life. Anyway, that's the reason I snapped this toy up was because it brought back a good memory.

Trivia: The average American opens their fridge 22 times a day. (Understandable. I do it to see if I can catch the light napping)

VINTAGE "ROARING TWENTIES" BRACELET (1920's)

This old bracelet was probably worn by a Flapper or a wishful wanna-be starlet at some point in time. It was a wild and wooly era. World War 1 was over and Germany was defeated. The world was just beginning to move forward in leaps and bounds compared to the many previous centuries. Autos were becoming more available to the public due to the newfangled assembly line approach to building things in a fast way. Syphyllitic Alphonse Capone was distributing his alcohol to a dry society in his climb up the gangster ladder of infamy. The stock market crashed in this decade and brought on the Great Depression of the 1930's. But at least the hopefuls had a little item of jewellery, cheap though it may have been, to dream of a better future. Ahh, dreams, don't we just love them. I will hang on to this because it was treasured greatly by some girl or woman, long gone by now, for her dreams and wishes.

MOTHER & DAUGHTER BOOK ON KEEPING CLEAN, HEALTHY & HAPPY ( 1946)

My how times have changed in our thinking since this book was written to instruct young girls on how to keep a man.

STAMPS OF HITLER, ELVIS, HUMPHREY BOGART, JAMES DEAN, WINSTON CHURCHILL, QUEEN, ETC

I am not a stamp collector by any stretch of the immagination. Whenever I spotted a stamp that piqued my interest I gathered it up. Some of the stamps are ones that were not used because the cost of postage went up so they just sat in the drawer and time flew by. It happens slowly but when we sit back and think on it ,it seems time sped up. Old age I guess.

Trivia: A dragonfly, the fastest flying insect, can move up to 35 miles per hour. Wow!

Did You Know? Danish artists have teamed up with engineers from Massachusetts to design a house that walks. The 10 foot high solar and wind powered home has a living room, kitchen, toilet and bed, plus a computer that controls the 6 hydraulic legs on which the house stands. These legs enable the house to stroll across all terrains and to walk away from flooded areas if necessary. ( A great idea for people with lousy neighbors)

MY DUTCH HERITAGE

My lovely wife and I have been on holidays this past two weeks. We visited with my older brother Art and his terrific wife Phyllis near Picton, Ontario where I was born 6 weeks after my family arrived here from Holland. It was good to see them. Phyllis's sister June showed up also and that was a nice surprise. Art was a barber before he retired so it was nice to get a good haircut from him. Art and I have the Dutch distinction of being tall as the pictures will show. My wife Karen is in the pink outfit and Phyllis is in the green. 

Trivia: Pirates thought that wearing an earring in a pierced ear improved their eyesight. (and all these years I thought wearing a patch on an eye improved their hearing) Oh well.

MARX NUTTY MADS "DIPPY THE DEEP DIVER" 1963

Great immagination in coming up with these silly creations. They were a joy to have as a kid. I collect them now as when I was young my overly religious father thought they were sinful and a waste of money. For 19 cents they were a bargain. It's cute how he still has a fish biting his rear end after 48 years. Enjoy.

Trivia: The only animal with only one ear is the praying mantis. Now we know what he is praying for.


Did You Know? At the 2009 Frankfurt Book Fair, a German publishing company started a new advertising craze by attaching very small banners to flies and letting them loose around the halls of the fair. Eichorn, whose logo is a fly, decided to attach the lightweight banners with the phrase, "The Publisher of the Fly"to 200 flies to promote their advertising kiosk. The banners were attached using string and wax which would fall off naturally without harming the fly. However, the flies did have some difficulty staying in the air and kept landing on the people all over the convention.

VINTAGE TIN LITHO TOY CARS, 1940-1960

To last up to 70 years and still be able to make out the people in the cars is terrific. They have been carried in many pockets over time. Enjoy.

Trivia: The Swiss Army keeps 20,000 carrier pigeons for emergency communications. Now that's for the birds.
